(01) The artists were taken to the forest for a full day of painting and picnicking, or just lazing around. It was a different and wonderful experience. The forest has provided many scenes which have found their way onto Russian canvases.

(02) Receptions, breakfasts, lunches and dinners awaited the artists wherever they went. Here the reception is at Vladimir Slepukhin's studio. Pictured, in front of a ceramic tile artwork of Vladimir's, is Victor Grinev-Petrov, President of Kolorit, making a toast.

(03) This painting was done by Victor Petrov-Grinev and is shown with the model. This was at a reception at Victor's studio.

(04) The Hermitage was originally the Winter Palace of the Czars. Today it includes numerous attached buildings and is one of the greatest art museums in the world. Pictured is the square to the rear of the Hermitage. Here began the revolution in 1917. Today many social events are held here.

(05) Many cathedrals have been built in Russia through the centuries. This is the Saints Peter & Paul Cathedral in Peterhof, the area in which Peter the Great built the Grand Palace.

(06) & (07) At the Farewell Reception the artists were entertained with song and dance by wonderful performing artists.
After the entertainment and luncheon, many gifts were given to the departing American artists.

Epilogue

The Art Cultural Exchange program came to an end but the friendships formed have lasted to this day. Artists often correspond and call each other on a regular basis and occasionally return to visit with old friends. Letters and small gifts are often sent to and from Russia via other groups visiting Lomonosov.
